Andrew,

Yes - lots of folks are going through the motions on social media because they hear that the "should" be on it. From an energy perspective, this is a low vibration and tends to lead to limited results.

I agree that Facebook is more spacious and it's easier to track the conversations (who said what is easier to follow on Facebook). And, I just read this morning that Facebook has passed over 400 hundred million users. You can't beat Facebook for sheer volume of potential people to connect with.

Great suggestion to have one be primary Andrew. To most of my clients these days, I'm suggesting getting started with Facebook and learning the social networking process there. Then they can branch out to other sites if it feels important. I still love the speed and ease of Twitter and I'm not going to give it up. It's a both/and universe that you and I live in. :~)

Thanks for your thoughts Andrew!

Paul,

Social networking is a buzz word. Many people hear it, don't know what it is or how to use it. Yet, they feel they must be on it.

The big question is what do you want out of joining a network?

All networks are about connecting with people. That doesn't mean selling!

I like Twitter because it is quick, short and to the point. Yet, I think it is far more impersonal.
Facebook is great if you like to write. You're given much more space. Also I think Facebook is far more personal. You get to choose who sees what you write.

All the others for me fall by the wayside.

A big consideration is, do you have time to keep it up-to-date?

Networking via SM can be incredibly useful. Yet, it should only be one of your strategies.

A great thing to do is use one as your primary source. Any updates you make are then pushed out to all your other social networks.

All networks require common sense. If you don't want mum or your kids to know about it, don't put in up there.

Happy Travels

Hi Paul,

Thanks for this very helpful perspective! I am getting involved in social networking in new ways this year so have been learning a lot. I really resonate with Till's comment about not being ADHD enough for Twitter!
